About The Sessions

This course introduces a powerful collection of foundational texts in ḥadīth methodology, bringing together three concise yet deeply significant treatises edited by Shaykh ʿAbd al-Fattāḥ Abū Ghuddah. The works included are: Risālat Abī Dāwūd ilā Ahl Makkah fī Waṣf Sunanihī (the letter of Imām Abū Dāwūd explaining his Sunan) Shurūṭ al-Aʾimmah al-Sittah by al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ṭāhir al-Maqdisī Shurūṭ al-Aʾimmah al-Khamsah by al-Ḥāfiẓ Abū Bakr al-Ḥāzimī Together, these texts open a unique window into the methodology (manhaj) of the great ḥadīth imams—especially the authors of the Kutub al-Sittah. Students will study the conditions (shurūṭ) each imām applied in selecting and grading narrations, while gaining insight into the subtle differences between their approaches. Particular focus will be given to the methodology of Imām Abū Dāwūd, allowing students to engage more deeply with Sunan Abī Dāwūd and better understand the principles behind its compilation.
